Nancy Lake

Nancy studied art at the Univ. of Illinois, MD Institute of Art, and under numerous well-known watercolor artists over the past years. Her painting came to a halt when she also fell in love with alpacas. For 23 years she raised, bred, showed, bought and sold them, first as Alpine Alpacas in Colorado, and then partnering with good friends as Gray Alpaca Company in Maryland. She recently retired and is now painting full time. Alpacas are still in her heart, so she hides one or two in most paintings, whether they belong or not. Some are grazing, some are head profiles, and all are tiny. Nancy’s style has gone from realistic in the early years to free, atmospheric, and emotion-packed, and sometimes abstract, today. There is a broad range of styles in her pieces, and she hopes there is something for everyone to relate to. She describes herself as always being a work in progress, and one of her favorite quotes is from Ghandi: "Live like you will die tomorrow; learn like you will live forever."
