Nancy's journey as an artist began with her studies at the University of Illinois and the Maryland Institute of Art. She further honed her skills under the guidance of numerous well-known watercolor artists throughout the years. However, her passion for painting took a backseat when she fell in love with alpacas. For 23 years, Nancy dedicated herself to raising, breeding, showing, and trading these beloved animals, first with Alpine Alpacas in Colorado and later with Gray Alpaca Company in Maryland.
Now retired, Nancy has returned to her first love of painting on a full-time basis. Despite moving away from alpaca farming, these gentle creatures still hold a special place in her heart. In her artwork, Nancy often incorporates hidden images of alpacas, whether they fit into the scene or not. From grazing alpacas to detailed head profiles, these tiny figures add a touch of whimsy to her pieces.
Over the years, Nancy's style has evolved from realistic to free, atmospheric, emotion-packed, and sometimes abstract. Her portfolio showcases a diverse range of styles, ensuring there is something for everyone to appreciate. Nancy describes herself as a perpetual work in progress, always seeking to learn and grow as an artist. One of her favorite quotes from Ghandi, "Live like you will die tomorrow; learn like you will live forever," encapsulates her dedication to continuous improvement.
