Nancy Lake

Nancy's artistic journey began with studying art at the University of Illinois and the Maryland Institute of Art, where she honed her skills under the guidance of numerous well-known watercolor artists. However, her passion for painting took a backseat when she fell in love with alpacas. For over two decades, Nancy dedicated herself to raising, breeding, showing, buying, and selling these gentle creatures, first with Alpine Alpacas in Colorado and later with Gray Alpaca Company in Maryland. Now retired, she has returned to her first love of painting full time, though alpacas still hold a special place in her heart.

In Nancy's paintings, you can often find hidden alpacas scattered throughout, whether they belong there or not. These tiny creatures appear in various forms, from grazing in the background to subtle head profiles. Nancy's artistic style has evolved over the years, transitioning from realistic depictions to more free, atmospheric, and emotion-packed compositions, sometimes even delving into abstract territory. Her pieces showcase a broad range of styles, ensuring there is something for everyone to appreciate.

Nancy describes herself as a perpetual work in progress, always seeking to learn and grow as an artist. One of her favorite quotes, attributed to Ghandi, serves as a guiding principle in her life: "Live like you will die tomorrow; learn like you will live forever." If you're looking to add a touch of beauty and whimsy to your home or office decor, consider purchasing prints of Nancy's captivating watercolor paintings. Each piece is a unique blend of skill, emotion, and creativity that is sure to spark joy wherever it is displayed.
