Jan Shima’s artwork depicts the wild wonder of the National Parks, and the tropical beauty of Hawaii. With rich vibrant colors she paints the grandeur of National Parks and lush tropical wildlife of Hawaii. "Birds fascinate and inspire me with their colors, feather patterns, flight and personalities." Every bird has a unique personality and each setting a sense of intimacy and mystery. Her works reflect a concern for preserving endangered species. Performing original poetry set to music, she dramatically illustrates many of her paintings at art shows & events.
Jan is also an accomplished musician, songwriter and recording artist. Her Album “Light to Soar” is a collection of original songs in a Jazz/World style inspired by hiking trips throughout the National Parks. She enjoys photographing nature in the Parks, using photos as painting subjects, album covers, and making some available as art prints. The single “TreeTalk” is inspired by listening to the conversation of trees and animals deep in the forests of Yosemite and Sequoia National Park. Recent painting “Ancient Guardian” is a reminder of how Yosemite was long ago.
Many of Jan's artworks and designs have been commissioned by fine Hotels including the Westin Maui, Kauai Coconut Resort, Sheraton Moana Surfrider, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, Ilikai Hotel, Waikiki Beachcomber, Hale Koa Hotel and others. Her artwork is found in National Park Resorts, Galleries, and Private collections throughout the U.S.A. and Japan.
