David S. Libbey is a native of South Portland, Maine who left the state in 1968 to serve in the US Army for two years. Following his service, he attended college at Memphis State University, and was then commissioned in the Marine Corps. During his time in the military, he served as Presidential Aircraft Commander for President Ronald Reagan from 1984 – 1987, before retiring from the Marine Corps to command a Marine helicopter training squadron at Marine Corps Air Station, Tustin, California.
David has always had an interest in art, attending art school workshops as a teenager in Portland, Maine and taking art classes at the University of Maine and Memphis State University. After retirement, he began painting with watercolor, focusing on watercolor portraits. He now resides in Trabuco Canyon, California.
