David S. Libbey, a native of South Portland, Maine, left his home state in 1968 to serve in the US Army for two years. Following his military service, he pursued a college education at Memphis State University and later was commissioned in the Marine Corps. During his time in the Marine Corps, David served as a Presidential Aircraft Commander for President Ronald Reagan from 1984 to 1987. Before retiring from the Marine Corps, he commanded a Marine helicopter training squadron at Marine Corps Air Station, Tustin, California.
Despite his successful military career, David has always had a strong interest in art. He attended art school workshops as a teenager in Portland, Maine, and continued to take art classes at the University of Maine and Memphis State University. It wasn't until after his retirement that David began painting with watercolors, developing a special interest in creating watercolor portraits. Currently residing in Trabuco Canyon, California, David continues to pursue his passion for art and photography.
