Denise Gonyea Durak

Born and raised in the Detroit Metro area of the United States, the artist eventually settled in the Greater Chicago Area, which they now call home. Living with their husband of many years, they have raised two children who also reside in the area with families of their own. Growing up with a design engineer father, the artist was constantly exposed to the arts and fell in love with Abstract Expressionism in the early 60's. They studied Fine Arts in college, where their work was publicly displayed for the first time. Currently working as a Doctor of Psychology, the artist also serves as a researcher and consultant for a psychology firm, drawing inspiration from their mother's background in accounting to balance the practical and the aesthetic in their art.

Enjoying both photography and abstract painting with acrylic and mixed media, the artist has been fortunate to study abstract painting with seasoned painters who have provided guidance and inspiration. Their art for sale primarily reflects the style of Abstract Expressionism, with occasional photography in their collections. Inspired by nature, especially botanicals, most of their original artwork adorns their home or the homes of friends and family. Limited edition prints of their work, in various sizes on museum-quality archival papers or canvas, are available for purchase for those who appreciate their painterly style.

Represented in several juried virtual national and international art galleries, the artist has also sold their work at local art fairs. Painting for pleasure, they are happy to share their art with those who enjoy their style. For those looking to enhance their home or office decor, limited edition prints of the artist's work are available for purchase to bring a touch of Abstract Expressionism into any space.
