The story of Recherche is one of a lifetime search for an authentic language. After decades of masking his neurodivergent experience to navigate a world of complex systems, he found his sanctuary—and his voice—in the deep woods of Maine. There, an off-grid life and a late-in-life autism diagnosis finally gave him permission to stop translating and start creating.
His process is a dance against time. Choosing acrylics as his "happy medium" for their brilliance and versatility, he has only 15-20 minutes to complete a painting before the medium skins over. In that crucible, fueled by the amplifying energy of classical or psy-trance music, he uses air to guide emotion. The resulting works are not binaries of chaos or calm, but a fluid spectrum of release, meditation, and spiritual inquiry. He frequently uses metallic paints not just as color, but to “inject light” and depth into the composition.
Elegance, for Recherche, is found in the refined control of this dance—the ability to move color through color without muddying, preserving the purity of each hue even in a maelstrom. While a fiery abstract and a serene landscape may vibrate with different feelings, they are unified by this shared process. They are siblings, born of the same breath, intended to create a harmonious experience of beauty, awe, and elegance for the collector.
