Anthony L. Stoker

Night Moods
Dewitt, MI

I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, the auto capitol of the world at that time. I was one of four children and raised in a simple timeand environment or so it seems looking back. As a young boy in the 1950's, I loved to draw, specifically all the Walt Disney characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella and many more. My art is just a extension of those early drawings. Although I had dabbled in oil paint earlier, I only seriously started it in 2007, the year my wife and I retired from the State of Michigan. I am self taught, no lessons…initially doing mostly landscapes by watching Bob Ross on television and studying the lighting techniques of Thomas Kincade. I eventually branched off doing more of the art I embraced. I don't have a specific genre.. I paint only what moves and stirs me. I love the use of bold colors and try to move my viewer to the point they feel some emotion when viewing my work. I am not a fine art painter but my work is good enough where I excell at art shows. My art is not purchased to decorate ones living space, there is always a personal connection expressed by the patrons who purchase my art. As with most artists, painting, for me, is an escape to an unknown adventure unfolding before me. The moment when my painitng begins to come alive is the most special and most satisfying time for me. Although I no longer do art shows, I still enjoy becoming immersed in the painting process and like Peter Pan, I will always be looking for my next adventure.
