Ian J. Newbury

Ian's passion for drawing began in his childhood, but it wasn't until the late 1980s that he delved into watercolor painting. Inspired by the breathtaking sights of Europe whizzing by from the windows of fast-moving trains, Ian's artistic journey truly began during an extended stop in Florence, Italy. It was there, on a modest budget of $30 a day, that he purchased his first basic supplies from a local art store. The act of painting with watercolors had a profound effect on Ian, allowing him to slow down his thoughts and truly absorb his surroundings.

Within a few years, Ian held his first art show at a gallery in Stonington, CT. Since then, his style has evolved through trial and error, drawing inspiration from the works of artists he admires. Over the past 25 years, Ian has showcased his artwork in various local and regional galleries, outdoor art shows, and solo exhibitions. While he once had a studio in the unique downtown area of Westerly, RI, Ian now creates his art in a studio within his own home. Despite his local following, Ian's paintings have also made their way into international collections, a remarkable achievement he never envisioned during his early days sketching in Italy.
