Ian has had a passion for drawing since childhood, but it wasn't until the late 1980s that he first experimented with watercolor. His inspiration came from glimpses of Europe rushing past the windows of speeding trains. A stop in Florence, Italy led him to a supply store where he purchased basic materials within his limited budget of $30 a day. This simple act had a profound effect on his creative process, causing him to slow down and truly absorb his surroundings.
Within a few years, Ian held his first show at a gallery in Stonington, CT, marking the beginning of a successful artistic journey. Through trial and error, he honed his style by studying the works of painters he admired. Over the past 25 years, Ian has exhibited his work in local and regional galleries, outdoor art shows, and solo exhibitions. While he once had a studio in the historic Westerly, RI downtown area, he now creates his art in a studio at home.
Ian's work has garnered a local following, but has also made its way into international collections, a dream he never thought possible when he first began sketching in the hills above Florence. His photos capture the beauty and essence of his surroundings, making them perfect for home and office decor. For those looking to add a touch of creativity to their living space, Ian's prints are a wonderful choice.
