Gary J. Maxwell Photographs
Aliquippa, PA
After graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1973, the artist delved into black and white photography, drawing inspiration from iconic photographers such as Edward and Brett Weston, Imogen Cunningham, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Despite initially resisting digital photography, the artist eventually embraced the medium in the mid-90s when they received a Pentax digital 35mm camera. While many of the photos in their gallery were captured with this camera, the majority were taken using various models of iPhones.
The artist's work predominantly features flowers, with some images bordering on the abstract. They view most of their photos as abstractions of colors and shapes, reflecting their unique perspective on the world. Eschewing popular editing software like Photoshop, the artist relies on free or inexpensive apps such as Pixler, Camera Bag, and Glaze, along with the Apple Photos application, to enhance their photos.
With over 50 years of experience behind the camera, the artist remains committed to evolving their craft, constantly seeking new ways to express their artistic vision. They invite viewers to explore their photography and hope that it resonates with them on a personal level. For those interested in adding a touch of artistry to their home or office decor, prints of the artist's work are available for purchase.
