Deidre Yumi Hamaguchi is an artist, physics instructor, and a professional fighter who lives in Coronado, California.
Deidre focuses on the human figure and the natural world in her drawings and paintings. She was captivated by the beauty of the human figure during lifedrawing classes at Parsons School of Design in Paris and at Yale University. The roundness of a turned shoulder, the tension in a twisted torso, and the gesture of and extended hand are evocative and ephemeral images.
Deidre interprets the natural world: flora, fauna, and landscapes, with the same rigor of line drawing that she applies to drawing nudes and portraits. When she interprets the natural world in painting, Deidre strives to capture the beauty of the interplay of color and shadow in form.
Deidre works in a range of media; from pencil, ink, and charcoal for drawing, to watercolor, gouache, and oil for painting. She hopes that those who view her work will be motivated to pick up a pencil, a pen, or a brush and begin to draw or paint their favorite flower, bird, or landscape. If her audience is left with a sense of wonder and passion for the natural world, then Deidre has accomplished her mission.
