Steven Castillo was born and raised in Belen, New Mexico. His interest in art began at the age of four watching his grandmother draw simple animal figures and continued in the public school system where his mother was a teacher and artist as well. While pursuing his degree in Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico he took a drawing course as an elective which further cultivated his fascination with art. During his pharmacy career he continued art as a hobby creating pieces from his heart for work, church, and his children's extracurricular activities. After retirement Steven began spending time exploring and creating his art using different mediums such as acrylic, oil, pencil, color pencil, oil pastel, and watercolor. During the past year Steven has developed a special interest in digital art. He loves realism and many of his works are very detailed pieces of art, however he is extremely versatile and also creates abstracts, doodles and chalkboards. His favorite subjects include animals, insects, flowers, and abstract color studies. As a self-taught artist Steven has received many award placements in local and regional art shows.
