Sheila Preston-Ford Artist
Dorchester, SC
Living in Northern California, surrounded by natural beauty, the artist finds daily inspiration for their work. Primarily a watercolor artist and illustrator, they also experiment with various mediums such as acrylic and alcohol ink. Their work is characterized by vivid colors, a love for value and contrast, and a unique 3D assemblage style using reclaimed items. Sculpture assemblage has provided them with a fresh perspective on creating and seeing the world around them.
In response to the devastating wildfires that ravaged their community, the artist turned to working with reclaimed materials as a way to bring beauty and hope from the ashes. Collaborating with Art From The Ashes (AFTA) and other local artists, they create art from burned items salvaged from the wildfires. The challenge and inspiration of working with limited materials have fueled their creativity and passion for spreading positivity through their art.
As a teaching artist known as Mrs. Ford at a private elementary school, the artist shares their knowledge and passion for creativity with the next generation. They teach technique, art history, theory, and appreciation, encouraging students to enjoy the artistic process and embrace new experiences without fear of making mistakes. Through teaching, they have learned to let go of the pursuit of perfection and instead embrace the beauty found in chaos and experimentation.
For those looking to bring a touch of creativity and inspiration into their homes or offices, the artist's prints are a perfect choice.
