Through his award-winning art, Gary Spetz aims to enrich the viewer's appreciation of the colors, shapes, and designs that surround us. Traveling extensively to collect painting materials and discover new paths to explore, Gary finds joy in the journey as much as the painting process itself. An avid outdoors enthusiast, he immerses himself in the landscapes he paints through activities such as hiking, skiing, sailing, and kayaking.
A "Signature Member" of the National Watercolor Society and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Gary frequently paints National Park subjects, with his work featured in the National Park Academy of the Arts painting collections. Articles showcasing his artwork have been published in Watercolor, Artists, and Watercolor Magic magazines, as well as in the books Searching For The Artist Within and Art From The Parks.
Gary has authored two instructional watercolor painting books and has hosted and co-produced 111 national PBS television episodes focused on learning watercolor painting and art travel. These include series such as Gary Spetz's Painting Wild Places, Gary Spetz's Watercolor Quest, Color World with Gary Spetz, and Best of Painting Wild Places. Gary and his wife, Marlene, call Northwest Montana home.
