Linda Cavanaugh embarked on her artistic journey in 2001, transitioning from a career in Silicon Valley to becoming a stay-at-home wife and mom. Initially focusing on general still life and landscape painting, she later delved into the intricate world of botanical art and illustration through classes at the Mary L. Harden School of Botanical Illustration in San Francisco. Under the expert guidance of Ms. Harden, Linda began her first pen and ink class in 2006, leading to her first exhibition at Alcatraz Island in 2007 as part of her Master of Botanical Art certification.
Since then, Ms. Cavanaugh has showcased her botanical artwork in various exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest, including at prestigious venues such as the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture and the Conservatory of Flowers. Her work has also been displayed at the Marin Cancer Institute, Bolinas Gallery, and the US Army Core of Engineers Bay Model Visitor’s Center during the Sausalito Art Fair. Notably, one of her recent paintings, the stunning Blue Agave, was featured in the Intoxicating Plants exhibit at the UCSF Faculty Alumni House and acquired by Mission Bay Hospitals in July 2014.
In describing her artistic approach, Linda Cavanaugh expresses that botanical art is more than just a documentation of flora; it is a means of narrating the life story of plants. She finds beauty in every stage of a plant's lifecycle, from the spent leaf to the new bud, and endeavors to convey this beauty to others through her art. To bring a touch of nature's elegance into your home or office decor, consider purchasing prints of Linda Cavanaugh's botanical masterpieces.
