JoAnna LaBelle is a Native American artist drawing inspiration from her Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, Dakota Sioux heritage. Her formal training as a biologist and anthropologist and her studies in Alaska and England have led to a deep appreciation for nature, biology, mathematics, and Dakota culture, which are all evident in her mandala and naturescape creations. JoAnna’s art encourages mindfulness and a recognition of the interconnectedness of all things.
Her works are mixed media, exploring acrylic paints, inks, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, pressed botanicals, fibers, collage, and digital art. Her use of organic colors and textures in her art imbue her works with a unique style.
