Ian has been drawing since childhood, but it wasn't until the late 1980s that he delved into watercolor painting. Inspired by the sights of Europe whizzing by the windows of speeding trains, he decided to give it a try. During a stop in Florence, Italy, he ventured into a supply store and purchased basic materials within his limited budget of $30 a day. This simple act had a profound effect on his creativity, allowing him to slow down and truly observe his surroundings.
After a couple of years of honing his craft, Ian held his first show at a gallery in Stonington, CT. Since then, his style has evolved through trial and error, with a focus on studying the works of painters he admires. Over the past 25 years, Ian has exhibited his paintings regularly in local and regional galleries, outdoor art shows, and solo exhibitions. While he once had a studio in Westerly, RI, he now works from a studio in his home.
Despite having a loyal local following, Ian's paintings have also made their way into international collections - a possibility he never imagined when he first began sketching in the hills of Florence. His artwork captures the beauty and serenity of various landscapes, making them perfect for home and office decor. Consider purchasing prints of Ian's work to add a touch of tranquility to your space.
