Eliel Cerero
Ciudad de México
Eliel Cerero is an illustrator and tattoo artist who does high contrast work with sublime yet aggressive ideas that communicate the emotional spectrum through shadows and light. The artist embraces the weirdness and expresses it in the surreal, dark images his clients request to place on their bodies for the rest of their lives.
As a self-taught artist, his education started at a young age by observing his parents whom both went to art school. Using different techniques such as acrylic paint, oil paint, ink and digital illustration his art can be owned in various media. His process starts with studies that are created on Procreate, which evolve into fine art prints or concepts that are fleshed out into paintings that range from a digital screen to large-scale works of art.
Cerero started studying filmmaking but it was brought to a halt by the pandemic. But his education included an art course at Casa Lamm & a Masterclass of Production Design in filmmaking given by Brigitte Broch at UC (Communication University) in México. Tattooing became a new path to express himself and connect with people’s emotions, coping with them and getting a deeper understanding of pain, love, grief and hope.
Based in Mexico City, Cerero is currently showing in the United States, specifically San Antonio, Texas, where both paintings and prints will be shown at an exhibition called Lone Star Wars that is dedicated to the sci-fi franchise and seeks to benefit the victims of the July 4th, 2025, Texas flood disaster. He is hosted by San Antonio artist, David Blancas for this show and will be included in an expanded exhibit May 2, 2025. Other exhibitions include a Día de muertos exhibition in NocturnalDeus and a guest artist in LINEA 3, both studios in Mexico City.
Cerero’s works are printed on archival papers with archival inks to help preserve his art in your space for generations. He is currently working on merch to provide collectors with a complete experience of my work. Follow his Instagram account to message him for a tattoo appointment or commission piece.
