Zwahlen is an artist who draws inspiration from the landscapes of her life, reflecting her deep connection to art and music since childhood. Balancing her passion for the piano and the paintbrush, she decided to pursue both paths, leading her to study with renowned piano pedagogues in her journey to becoming a concert pianist. However, after realizing that the classical concert stage was not where she belonged, Zwahlen shifted her focus to fine art and graduated from the Boston Art Institute.
Taking a sabbatical from teaching art and music, Zwahlen found herself in Waterville Valley for a winter season of skiing. It was there that she met her Swiss husband, Werner, who opened up a new chapter in her life, adding Switzerland to the landscapes that inspired her artwork. For over three decades, the White Mountains ski country was home to Zwahlen and Werner, with him serving as her constant supporter and muse in their adventures through nature.
Following Werner's passing from cancer, Zwahlen found solace and healing through her art, using her pencils, pastels, and canvas to immerse herself in the beauty of her surroundings and move away from the grief that weighed heavy on her heart. Her paintings can be found in private and corporate collections across the United States, France, and Switzerland, with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center honoring Werner's memory by displaying several of her works. Currently residing in Mont Vernon, N.H., Zwahlen continues to create in her studio and shares her passion for music by teaching her six grandchildren piano.
For those looking to bring a touch of Zwahlen's landscapes into their own homes or offices, her prints are available for purchase. Embrace the beauty and emotion captured in her artwork, adding a unique and meaningful touch to your living or workspace.
