Painting from the landscapes of her life, Zwahlen's artistic journey has been deeply intertwined with her love for music. Balancing her passion for the piano and the paintbrush, she ultimately chose to pursue both paths, leading her to study with renowned piano pedagogues before shifting her focus to fine art at the Boston Art Institute. It was during a sabbatical in Waterville Valley that she not only discovered her love for skiing but also met her Swiss husband, Werner, who became her lifelong partner and inspiration.
For over three decades, Zwahlen's life revolved around the picturesque White Mountains ski country, with Werner by her side as her constant art encourager and companion on outdoor adventures. However, their idyllic life was shattered when Werner passed away from cancer, leaving Zwahlen to navigate the landscape of grief and healing through her art. Using pencils, pastels, and canvas as her tools, she found solace in capturing the beauty that surrounded her, allowing her to move away from the shadows of loss.
Zwahlen's paintings can be found in collections across the United States, France, and Switzerland, with several pieces displayed at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in honor of her late husband. Currently residing in Mont Vernon, N.H., she continues to create art in her studio while passing on her musical talents to her grandchildren. Those looking to bring a piece of Zwahlen's unique and emotional landscapes into their homes or offices can purchase prints of her work to add a touch of beauty and inspiration to their space.
