Bill Cryer lives in Austin, Texas. He began drawing and painting after he retired from a career as a journalist, public affairs executive and government. He has taken many art courses at Laguna Gloria, which is part of the Austin Museum of Art, as well as several private lessons. "Art has taught me how to see the world from a different perspective, " he says. "I notice colors more and how they are seldom as pure as they are often represented in photograps or other media and how light is always moving, always changing. I also notice small details of objects more and am forced to make decisions about which are important to the image I have in my mind's eye and which are best ignored. Every piece I work on is an eye-opening experience that teaches me about our ephemeral reality.
