The Judgement of Paris II

Portraits & Figure By Nancy E. Polo

Based on Watercolor on paper by Nancy Polo. Three women are having a conversation. In the background are a male figure, and a Pink Lady Apple. This is based on the myth regarding the start of the Trojan War. The goddess of discord, Eris, threw an apple into the reception of Peleus, and the sea nymph Thetis' wedding, as revenge for not being invited. The golden apple was inscribed with the words "For the Fairest". Paris was selected by the gods to settle a dispute between the three goddesses: Athena, Hera and Aphrodite- Who is the Fairest? In this painting, it is not clear if the "women"/dolls are even concerned with the "male figure" in the background. It could be that they are just talking to each other.
