Homage to Kiki Kogelnik

This piece is an homage to one of my favorite artists, Kiki Kogelnik. I discovered her when I was researching women who were influential in the Pop Art Movement. I perceived her work to be very expressive and strong. I saw a lot of fearless feminism in her work that I can relate to, especially at this moment in history. To create this piece, I started with a paper collage. Then I photographed it. Using a digital drawing program, I inserted the image of the collage and an image of Kiki Kogelnik. From here, I used these images to create the digital drawing. I used bright colors and patterns to acknowledge Kiki’s style. For viewers, take a closer look a women in the arts because we are underrepresented. It’s not a question of talent, but speaks to the structural institutions that reinforce how we think about artists.
