On Line...Waiting

The two figures standing back to back, one a white man with a Mohawk, the other a black man wearing punk era clothes, struck me as symbolic. While the construct seemed to suggest a commonality between the two because of a shared experience in Punk Rock, the body language showed fissures of racial tension. The primary color scheme combined with simple neutral colors is meant to heighten awareness of the figures’ apparent cultural dissonance. Additionally, the emphasis on line deliberately shows the viewer pathways to different destinations and conclusions regarding the figures’ interaction. The surface they are standing on is semi-transparent and their shadows are red, and this is an open question. Beneath the surface is a woman, smiling up at the men. She is difficult to see and often overlooked. This intentional inclusion symbolizes the role female laborers play in the fashion industry. To make this work, I created a digital image, which can be produced when a buyer is interested. I chose this medium because I believe that creating work this way is least harmful to the environment.
