Field of Flags

America/Military By Karol Livote

Field Of Flags - The Field of Flags was dedicated on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Somers Congregational Church in Somers, CT. At the time, the Church had placed a single flag to honor each American casualty (2,231) of Iraq and Afghanistan. A list of casualties displayed each name and rank by state. The media coverage and response from the community, families and others was very strong. Even people from out of state came to visit the Field of Flags. Each year more and more Churches joined in and participated with their own Field of Flags. It was to show respect for those who gave their lives and for those who serve this great country, so that we have the freedoms that we have.
