Cuba By John Wider

This watercolor painting is of a Roberto Fabelo Sculpture, in Havana Cuba. It represents the 1990's fall of the Soviet Union and the economic impact to Cuban citizens monthly stipend. The statue shows a young girl wearing high heels (becoming a prostitute at night) with a fork (to put food on the family table), riding on the back of a rooster (a symbol of the majestic male....yet she is sitting calmly on his back. Art in Cuba often expressed the voice of political protest. This is a great example.
