Church of St Catherine

Cities and Towns By Eric Winkler

The Church of Saint Catherine, Honfleur, France. Largest wooden church in France.Built in the 15th century to offer divine thanks for the departure of the English after the Hundred Year's war, it's the largest wooden church in France. Constructed by shipbuilders, the interior of the church has a wooden vaulted ceiling -- basically a boat turned upside down. I was walking around town looking for a place to eat dinner and was taken by the silhouette of the steeple against a moody sky and the faint light on the clock.
