Independence, Colorado

Mountain Views By Eric Winkler

The abandoned mining town of Independence, Colorado. I hiked down one morning from Highway 82 to the town, which is located on the west side of the continental divide near Aspen. Gold was struck there on July 4, 1879, hence its name. The setting has many abandoned historic buildings set in a picturesque location at 3300m along the headwaters of the Roaring Fork river.
