Mountain Valley with Wildflowers

Mountain Views By Eric Winkler

The Puy Ferrand, at 1854m, viewed from the Vallée de Chaudefour, Chambon-sur-Lac, France. The mountain is one of many extinct volcanic peaks in the Monts Dore range in the Massif Central, which is separated from the Alps to the east by the Rhone River valley. The entire range is covered with green foliage after the snow melts, and is a popular place for hiking and rock climbing. I took this image after having lunch next to a group of friendly cows wearing bells. The skies had gradually cleared during the morning and I used a Nikon 28 mm lens shot from a low position at 1/20s, F/16 and ISO 200 to get depth of field. I used a Singh-Ray 2-stop soft grad to balance sky and foreground, and a LB Color Combo Polarizer to cut glare, improve contrast and add a bit of richness to the foliage.
