Puy Ferrand

Mountain Views By Eric Winkler

The Puy Ferrand, at 1854m, viewed from the Vallée de Chaudefour, Chambon-sur-Lac, France. The mountain is one of many extinct volcanic peaks in the Monts Dore range in the Massif Central, which is separated from the Alps to the east by the Rhone River valley. The entire range is covered with green foliage after the snow melts, and is a popular place for hiking and rock climbing. I took this image during a day hike, with overcast skies that occasionally allow the sun to peek through.
