View from the Roc de Cuzeau, Chambon-sur-Lac, France, looking east toward the Rhone Valley and the Alps. The Roc, at 1737m, forms the east wall of the caldera of an extinct volcano in the Puy de Sancy range in the Massif Central. It is easily reached by a gentle climb through sheep pasture from the Col de la Croix Saint Robert. There was a stiff breeze that day (perhaps most days), and the clouds were casting fast-moving shadows across the valley. I waited for the sun to briefly highlight the rock outcropping in the center of the frame.
