Raising the Sword from the Water

Myths at McConnell Springs By Shylo Silvenar

Series: Myths at McConnell Springs Title: Raising the Sword from the Water Subtitle: While one defies Fate and carves an unseen destiny Location: Scene photographed at McConnell Springs Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The subject was photographed in a studio. Project Dates: September 2020 - May 2021 McConnell Springs (https://mcconnellsprings.org/) is a special place for me. It was shown to me by two people I greatly respect as a place where I could go to recharge and be in a little bit of nature. It's such a hidden gem. The history behind it is rich, and the park is beautiful. If you're ever in the area of Lexington, Kentucky I highly recommend stopping by. This image was taken at the Storm Water Quality Wetland Pond in the park. This was actually the first image completed in this series. I was reminded of the lady of the lake and thought to retell it as her taking the sword for herself to be the hero instead of handing it off to someone else. The blue coloring of this image is meant to evoke feelings of cool water. In the grander story of this series, this image gives a sense of defying what is known and carving a new destiny. For me personally, I believe this image reflects my desire to break the mold and become more than what others see in me.
