Photography. From the pass overlooking the Katun valley and the glaciers beneath Mt. Belukha on the Siberian and Khazakstani border. The valley appears empty but below were the Roerich Shrine at the so-called Dragon's Tail and the St. Michael's chapel to lost mountaineers. The pass was arduous and the valley below magical. Beneath the Altai to the south is the Gobi desert.
