Fall on Looking Glass Creek

Looking Glass Creek starting high on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this major tributary of the Davidson River is paralleled by Hwy. 276 as it drops steeply through the Pisgah Ranger District. Plunge pools, cascades and pocket water characterize the majority of the stream’s characteristics.. Parts of the stream are heavily overgrown with rhododendron and alder, but there are access paths and turn-outs for parking all along this beautiful stream. Looking Glass Falls receives most of the attention and visitors, but for my money and time I’d much rather explore the “off the beaten path” sections of this stream. I stumbled upon this location after driving by it for three years, I found it by chance and it was right under my nose the entire time. A short hike from the main road, once one reaches the stream, this area has magical feel to it. My first shoot there, I spent four hours and it felt like 30 minutes. I have photographed this area a dozen times, each time it offers a new look - the lighting, the shadows, the flora. You will see quite a few shots of this area in my catalog. It still amazes me to this day, and I smile big as I approach this stream each time. This photograph was shot the third week of October 2022. 50mm, f/8 30 second exposure.
