Fall and Winter By Alessandra Chaves

Lantern seedpod #2, 202, portrays the papery, lantern-like seed pods of the Golden Rain Tree (Samanea saman) in color. A black and white photo of the same seedpod can be found in my gallery "Seed and Pod". These pods are rich in detail and texture. The tree is s native to Central and South America and has been introduced around the world, being a very common tree in the Central Valley of California. In China the raintree was used to mark the graves of important officials, and it's often found on temple grounds throughout eastern Asia and Japan.
