Cecropia leaf #1, 2021

Fall and Winter By Alessandra Chaves

Cecropia leaf #1, 2021, is part of my black and white photograph series “Dry leaves”. This series is an intimate look at the shape, texture, and tones of some common leaves after they have dried out. Using specialized lighting techniques and a black background, I endeavor to show that there is still beauty in these botanical subjects after they have lost their attractive pigments, smooth surface, and luster. Cecropia is a common tree in the Atlantic Forest and is the favorite food of the sloth.
