Angels' curves #2, 2020

6. White background By Alessandra Chaves

Angel's trumpets (genus Brugmansia) are widely used as ornamental plants in the Central Valley of California, where frosts are rare. The UC Davis Arboretum has a few bushes that flower every spring. I am drawn to the delicate, sensual curves of this exquisite and poisonous flower. Angels' curves #2, 2020, was featured in my self-published book “Chloroplast” (blurb.com), a photographic exploration of the world of organisms that derive energy from the sun. In that collection, I use especial lighting techniques and a background free of distracting elements to guide the viewer’s attention to the shape and texture of plants and algae.
