Walking on the mountains of the Sierra Nevada of California in the winter of 2019, I came across a lone pine tree in the snow. It was very cold, and the snow was very deep, going on for miles on end. This tree reminded of Christmas, Christmas trees, and sweet childhood memories. Lone pine, 2019, is part of my minimalist collection, which contrasts with my main body of work by presenting the main subject against a white background. Minimalism is a timeless philosophy that encompasses the idea that, by removing clutter, one can focus on what really matters: the shape and symmetry of this tree and the memories it brings.
