Ceanothus walking, 2022

6. Root and bark By Alessandra Chaves

At the UC Davis arboretum there are a few gnarly Ceanothus bushes, so contorted as to acquire human-like figures. Ceanothus doesn't grow just anywhere. The West Coast from British Columbia to California has low enough temperatures in the summer and mild enough in winter to support this plant. The flowers of this California native are blue and attract lots of bees.
