Languid roots, 2021

6. Root and bark By Alessandra Chaves

I am attracted to the shapes and form of aerial tree roots. Often, when I am out photographing in forests and public parks, I look for them, also as a means to avoid tripping and falling. Languid roots, 2021, belong to a long dead tree, now represented only by a stump. Walking about the UC Davis arboretum, I came across them. I had passed by these roots many times before, but this was the first time I attempted to photograph them. They make up for an intriguing abstract, and remind me of exhausted people in the aftermath of a struggle.
