It was a strange morning at the Asilomar State Beach in the Pacific Grove, California, USA. The atmosphere was darkened by the Dolan fire, which ravaged the Big Sur area in 2020. The smoke from the fire helped to create the soft, diffused light to take this picture, which highlights the pattern of the seaweed structure against the sand. Marine alga, 2020, was featured in my self-published book “Chloroplast”, a photographic exploration of the world of organisms that derive energy from the sun.
