I saw this little lichen growing on a large granite rock while hiking in Alderfer Three Sisters Park, Evergreen, Colorado with my dog Maggie. It looks to me just like a little brain tucked in amongst other lichen forms. This image is composed of multiple shallow depth of field ultra macro photos that are focus stacked and then stitched together in Photoshop to create one large piece. The brain-like portion is about 1/2 inch in width in real life.
