Hunting Island Light

Lighthouses By Sean Mcwilliams

Construction began on the Hunting Island Lighthouse, near Beaufort, SC, in 1859, but was delayed by the Civil War, finally reaching completion in 1875. The stately and stout lighthouse withstood many storms and hurricanes in its service life, finally being deactivated in 1933. The lighthouse still stands today, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, as a part of Hunting Island State Park, although the color scheme is much different than this original sketch.
