When I Think of My Daughters

16 x 20 Art Prints By Kaylene J. Big Knife

Mood: A bright pastel dream against a soft backdrop and glowing pollen, layered with sharp Chippewa Cree florals, leaves in the shape of flames, and juneberries that remind me of all my nieces. ❀❀❀❀ In the Chippewa Cree way, your mother's sisters are connected to you like second mothers. The Cree word for mother is "ni kah wiy," and the term for a maternal auntie is "ni kah wis." As I created this artwork, I reflected on the immense joy and pride I take as I continue learning to be a good auntie. It symbolizes my role as a guiding presence, illuminating the path for my nieces as they navigate their own journeys. This digital art piece, at its core, honors Indigenous mothers and their daughters, in all relations and forms this connection takes. This print can be purchased in the following three options: a poster, a Giclee print, and a framed Giclee print.
