Following a catastrophic destruction, the people of the New World remained for three days in darkness so thick that it could be felt. There was not a glimmer of light nor could a fire be kindled. It was during this time that the Christ had been crucified and lay in his tomb in the Old World. The “Light of the World” was gone. But not for long. Glorified and resurrected, Jesus Christ appeared to his disciples and taught them. Ascending into heaven in the Old World, he descended to visit his “other sheep” in the New World. This painting celebrates his glorious visitation as the “Light of the World.”
