Dawn on the Land of Desolation

Religious Art By James H Fullmer

Hidden in the north country of the Book of Mormon lands, lay the ruins of a once great nation. Their rebellion against God had led to a massive civil war and their utter destruction. But, lying undetected in the crumbling remains is a sacred record written on twenty four plates of gold by the prophet Ether. In this scene, we find the forty three men sent by the king to discover their homeland and ask for aid. Instead these men become lost but here have found an even greater treasure. I have always wondered what it might be like to discover a lost land and to be the first to explore it. It was important to me to capture an air of mystery especially for those who know the story. Perhaps the viewer, as they visually explore the ruins, will wonder which of all these locations the twenty four plates of Ether will be found.
