St. Thomas Historical Trust Museum Chaney #2, USVI

Sea Glass & Pottery By Emily St. Amant

This was painted on-site at the St. Thomas Historical Trust Museum in historic Charlotte Amalie and depicts some of the many pieces of pottery in their collection that were found on the island of St. Thomas and the surrounding waters. “Chaney” is the term once used by children in St. Croix to describe the broken pottery pieces they found and shaped into round tokens to use as play money. To this day, Virgin Islanders call the pottery found on land and in the surrounding waters “Chaney.” The original watercolor painting is by Emily St. Amant, completed in 2024. ~~~ Products in additional sizes, materials, and item types are available.
