95. Tree on Long Island Sound

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

1995 LONG ISLAND, NY. I had spent the day painting on the Long Island Sound along the shores of Connecticut. As I was leaving to return to my car, I walked passed this tree. The tree with its branches reaching out over the alcove of the Sound made for an interesting composition. The alcove provides a welcoming and safe haven from the sometimes turbulent waters of the Long Island Sound. It was a sense of serene peacefulness that attracted me and that I wanted to convey in this small painting. How good it is to find such alcoves of serenity for ourselves.
