65. Coast Guard Station

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

February 2005 OCEAN CITY, NJ - At the southern end of the populated beach in Ocean City is this building that houses the offices of the U.S. Coast Guard. I went back behind the dunes on the ocean side of the station to get this view. The day was windy and deeply overcast on the day I made the sketch for this painting. I wanted to keep the picture looking somewhat subdued, with a suggestion of threatening weather in the forecast. The Coast Guard often works under adverse conditions to perform their task of guarding the coastline and rescuing those in difficulty. It is good to know there are those about us who dedicate themselves to the protection and service of others. It can inspire us, if ever called upon, to do the same.
