64. First Aid Station

Donald Hazen Brown Archive By Don Brown

2007 OCEAN CITY, NJ At the northern end of the boardwalk in Ocean City is this rather uninspiring, functional building. Its sole purpose is to provide medical care for any who might need it. Sitting on a bench across the way on a busy, hot, Fourth of July weekend, I attempted to sketch and paint the building. The crowds of vacationers continually obscured my vision. Giving up, I came back on a day with fewer bathers on the boardwalk and completed my sketch. For someone or something to be helpful, like this rather mundane First Aid Station, it need not be inspiring or heroic. Assistance came come from the most unlikely and surprising sources.
